What equipment do you need for P90X?

P90X is the wildly popular fitness program designed by trainer Tony Horton.  You can see P90X in informercials all over the place, and pretty much anyone you talk to in a group setting knows someone who has gotten fabulous results from P90X.

But what equipment do you need to do P90X?  Today I will walk through a basic listing for you, and you can always go to www.gooyfitnessdad.com to see more.

  • A chinup bar is an absolute must.  There are several varieties of a doorway chinup bar, but the most effective are the ones that have a lip that goes over the frame of the door and has several different types of grips for a wider variety of workouts.  These chinup bars cost anywhere from $35 - $75, and can often support up to 300 pounds of weight.
  • Dumbells are another important part of the P90X routine.  You do a lot of arm exercises, and you'll need a pair of dumbells in different weights.  Or,
  • A substitute for dumbells and a way to enhance the chinup bar are resistance bandsResistance bands come in different colors to signify the tension of the band, and give a good workout in one direction only.  Sometimes the resistance bands are even more effective than dumbells.
