My new favorite Disney souvenir

If you are a Disney geek like me, one of your favorite Disney memories may have something to do with something that's not even an attraction at all - the Disney monorails! If you can smell that distinct monorail smell, know just the tone or note of the "ding!", or, most importantly, know that famous monorail phrase "por favor mantenganse alejado de las puertas" by heart, you're going to love my new favorite Disney souvenir, one of the not so secret Disney secrets I discovered on my last Walt Disney World trip.

But first, let's talk a little about the monorails themselves. I won't cite a lot of facts about the track length and specs of the monorail, but I want to talk about the things that make it so fun. Before the unfortunate monorail crash, families could sit in the front car of the monorail for an extra special experience, but, even without that unique vantage point, there's just something about a trip on the monorail that's really wonderful.

If you are staying off property and use the Magic Kingdom monorail, or if you use the longer EPCOT monorail, you can hear and see some great things about Disney on your journey. Even though it takes a mere few minutes, and can be done either sitting or standing, a monorail trip is just one of those quintessential things that scream - YOU'RE AT DISNEY WORLD NOW!

The ways the doors open, the sound of the bell, and the things that you hear on the monorail are all just different parts of a greater memory that make the whole monorail experience so much fun, and that's why I was SO happy to find - you guessed it! - a monorail t-shirt!

I saw a couple of people wearing the shirts, and I just had to ask them where to get them! These "por favor mantenganse alejado do las puertas" shirts are SO cool, SO great looking, and just SO fun that I had to have one!

But finding one seemed to pose just a minor problem. The obvious place to look was at the HUGE Disney story at Downtown Disney, but, after a lot of searching and asking, they were out. Being the helpful Disney castmembers that Disney has, they called around and found that the only place that still had some of my coveted shirts was at The Emporium on Main Street, but an initial search turned up nothing. A friend of mine spotted some at the gift shop in The Contemporary, but, when I looked there, all of the monorail shirts were gone.

Frustrated, I returned to The Emporium on Main Street USA at The Magic Kingdom, determined to find the monorail shirt; and I finally did!

If you want to find my new favorite Disney souvenir or Disney merchandise, here is what you do. Go to The Emporium on Main Street USA, and go to the very, very back - almost to the point where you are walking into Casey's Corner, and there they are!

The shirts are GREAT looking, despite the ugly guy wearing it in the picture, and at $21.95 are about average for an official Disney t-shirt. The shirt is a thick cotton gray, has the slogan "por favor mantenganse alejado de las puertas" printed on it, and has a beautiful graphic of the monorail beneath the words.

After I finally got the shirt, I was really, really happy, and even more happy when i found that the Disney store online does not carry these shirts, which is one of the Disney tips I thought I may able to take advantage of.
