Disney dining review - Casey's Corner on Main Street USA
68There are plenty of great counter service dining locations in the Magic Kingdom, and Casey’s Corner is typically one of my favorites. I feel like the overall quality (and quantity) of the food, however, is not quite what it used to be.
Having said that, I would still give Casey’s Corner on Main Street USA in the Disney’s Magic Kingdom a good review – at least a 3, possibly a 4 out of 5 star rating. I am pleased with this restaurant and will definitely go back again, but I want to share with you exactly why I would say it’s a good counter service location, but not quite excellent.
My family of three – myself, my wife, and our five year old daughter went for dinner, and stood in the typically long lines. The service at this, and most Disney restaurants, is outstanding, and castmembers do their absolute best to stay friendly and keep guests happy, all the while trying to keep an efficient traffic flow in the restaurant. High crowd levels during peak times of the year, like Thanksgiving week, which is the time of year of this review, is expected and definitely did not take away from the overall dining experience at Casey’s Corner.
I usually get the hot dog, which is what put Casey’s on the map, so to speak, so I thought I’d stray from what I normally do and order the ball park nachos. My wife had a hot dog, and my daughter had the hot dog combo, which includes French fries. I had a 32 ounce (large) Diet Coke, and my wife and daughter each had a 22 ounce lemonade.
Here is a listing of the items we had, and the price:
- Hot dog combo - $5.79
- Grand Slam hot dog - $4.79
- Ball Park nachos - $7.28
- 22 ounce lemonade (2) - $4.38
- 32 ounce Diet Coke - $2.49
- Subtotal - $25.74
- Tax - $1.68
- Total - $27.42
So, now that you know exactly what we had, I’ll give you my review. The hot dogs were good, and one of the fun things about Casey’s Corner is the condiment bar for the hot dogs. You can add relish, sauerkraut, mustard, mayo, ketchup, and cheese to your hot dog as you like it. I swear that the hot dogs used to taste a little different, different being better, but they are still quite good.
The French Fries are typical theme park French Fries, and the portion size and taste are quite good. Where I think Casey’s Corner fell short was in the Ball Park Nachos. I was expecting a better quality offering from Disney, and I was disappointed. The nacho chips themselves were either stale or close to being stale, and the chile and cheese was not adequate to cover the fairly small portion of nacho chips.
The Ball Park Nachos weren’t exactly bad, but they weren’t exactly good either, and they were definitely not a good value at over $7.00 for the nachos alone. I will not be getting the nachos again, and I don’t recommend them. We usually go for the nostalgia and get a box of Cracker Jacks, but the Mickey ice cream bars at the hub of Main Street USA were calling us, and we couldn’t resist.
This meal was definitely not a way for someone on a low calorie or really any other healthy diet to stay the course, but it was a pretty good dinner after a long day in the parks. If you are a hot dog fan or just love the location and atmosphere of Casey’s Corner, it’s definitely a place I would still recommend, but I’d go for the hot dog if were you!
