An often overlooked treat at Disney World in the Magic Kingdom – Auntie Gravity’s
67Disney Magic Kingdom dessert treat
If you are a regular visitor to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Orlando, you may be the type who leisurely goes from attraction to attraction. Or, you could be like many people, who pick out favorite lines and make a beeline from one thing to another, without really noticing all the wonderful things going on around you. Either way, I have a spot that is often overlooked that may be a great place for you to get a refreshing snack – Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies.
Auntie Gravity’s is in the Tomorrowland area, right near the Tomorrowland Speedway (the race cars that so many of us have nostalgic feelings about). It isn’t a full sit down meal restaurant, and, in fact, you can’t really get any true entrée type items. Instead, Auntie Gravity’s is what I would call an ice cream shop.
In and of itself, this is not really anything special, but the quality of the things you can get at Auntie Gravity’s is what makes it stand apart. Here is a sampling of what you can get at Auntie Gravity’s:
- soft serve ice cream in a cone or cup (vanilla, chocolate, or swirled)
- ice cream floats made with your choice of beverage and ice cream flavor
- ice cream sundaes chocolate, vanilla, or swirl soft serve with caramel, hot fudge, or strawberry topping
- fruit smoothies - strawberry/banana, tropical fruit (orange-pineapple-mango-passion fruit), cappuccino, or orange-pineapple
The prices are reasonable, and my favorite is the ice cream float, made with Coke and vanilla soft serve ice cream. As of November 2010, the total price for an ice cream float, tax included, is $4.25 (not bad by Disney or any other standards).
But part of what makes this such a special and unique place is more than just the fantastic Coke floats that taste just like I remember them from my own childhood, it’s the atmosphere. If you remember making Coke floats with vanilla ice cream, or, better yet, root beer floats with Frosty's root beer in a bottle, you know what I'm talking about!
There are outside tables and chairs and a lot of benches aroud the plants where you can sit in Tomorrowland, enjoy your treat, and soak in the atmosphere. It’s a great place where you can just take a break and have a great treat, and one of the 333 overlooked tips on a Disney tips iphone app now available in the itunes store. The next time you’re on a beeline from Space Mountain to Spash Mountain, stop and enjoy a treat at Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies! You won’t be disappointed!
